Merchandising a fashion store that actually sells the second item
Fashion lives and dies on the attach rate. How collections, sizing clarity and considered cross-sells turn a single purchase into an outfit.

In fashion, the first sale is the hardest and the least profitable. The brands that thrive are the ones that make the second item feel obvious — the belt for the dress, the socks for the shoes, the next size up to try at home.
Collections do the styling for you
Group products the way a customer wears them, not the way your warehouse stores them. A 'weekend edit' or a 'first job wardrobe' sells more than a wall of SKUs, because it does the imagining on the customer's behalf.
Kill the sizing anxiety
- Put the size guide where the size is chosen, not three clicks away.
- Describe fit in plain words: runs small, true to size, relaxed.
- Make returns feel safe, so trying at home isn't a gamble.
Cross-sell, don't clutter
One or two genuinely complementary suggestions convert. A carousel of fifteen 'you may also like' items just adds noise and slows the page.
Good merchandising isn't about showing more. It's about showing the right next thing at the right moment — and trusting the customer to say yes when it's useful.
